HARRY
Barak Marshall
In this creation tailor-made for the excellent dancers of Ballets Jazz Montréal, the choreographer of Israeli-American origin, Barack Marshall, was inspired by the inner battles that humans face. “Life is an eternal struggle where Man must continually face cultural, gender and species conflicts,” he says. "Between men and women, in particular, everyone must make compromises in order to find balance." The play thus revolves around the character of Harry, who struggles to overcome powers that are both real and existential. This work, of great energy, highlights a recurring theme of Humanity: conflicts and man's capacity to overcome them. With a soundtrack that alternates jazz, Israeli folklore and traditional music, this new opus filled with hope and humor will alternate ensemble scenes, trios and duos and will bring to life absolutely fabulous moments of dance.
A production by Ballets Jazz Montréal in co-productions with the National Arts Center (Ottawa), Festival Danse en Places (Montauban), Joyce Theater (New York), and Segal Center for Performing Arts (Montreal).
The piece Harry is a work dedicated to the memory of Marjorie and Gerald Bronfman, great patrons of Ballets Jazz Montréal.
“Between superb images and very elaborate choreographic writing, Harry fits perfectly with the undeniable talent of Ballets Jazz Montréal. A magnificent piece! »
